Dane County Divorce Records

Official court documents detailing the legal process and final judgment of a marriage dissolution are known as divorce records. In Dane County, the Family Division of the Circuit Court manages these divorce cases and keeps the corresponding case files.

As court records, divorce records are subject to Wisconsin’s Public Records Law. While they are generally accessible, certain portions may be restricted or withheld from public view. Interested individuals may search for available records through the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access system. If a record is not accessible online, requests may be directed to the court clerk’s office. Requesters will need to provide sufficient identifying information, preferably a case number, to locate a record. Searches conducted without a case number may incur a fee.

A standard Dane divorce record may include the names of the parties and their attorneys, the filing date, the date the divorce was finalized, and the terms of the judgment (decree). These terms may address child custody and placement, visitation schedules, child support, spousal maintenance (where applicable), and division of marital assets and debts.
